Sonic Origins Team working on fixes for game

The tale of Sonic Origins is a tragic one. The collection of classic Sonic titles remade for modern systems should have been an easy win for the Blue Blur. Unfortunately, the collection launched with a plethora of problems – problems which are now actively being worked on.

Sonic Origins took Sonic the Hedgehog 1. 2, CD, 3 and Knuckles and remastered/remade them for modern systems (adding widescreen support, new moves, sprites and more) while also connecting all 4 games together through a story mode. Unfortunately, due to SEGA not giving the team at Headcannon enough time and resources, the game launched with a wide number of bugs previously not seen within these classic titles.

While it is unfortunate to see the game’s quality being undone by such issues, the Sonic Origins Team is currently working to fix all the problems which players encountered, with Sonic’s Social Media Manager Katie Chrzanowski taking to Twitter to say:

“Hey! Thanks for the patience! The team's been listening and is working on fixing a variety of issues right now. We'll make sure to get some more official messaging out once we have more info for everyone.”

In the immediate wake of Sonic Origins’ release, and the realisation that the games suffered from these issues, one of the studio’s leads ‘Stealth’ claimed that “we asked to do major fixes near submission but weren't allowed due to submission and approval rules. We asked about delays early and repeatedly but were told they weren't possible. We offered to come back for post-release fixes and updates- we do not yet know if this is happening.”

Fortunately, we now know that the team has indeed received approval to fix many of these issues. While we do not know how long it will take, it is good to see that eventually Sonic Origins will become the definitive way to play these games – it just might take some time.
