Slime Rancher to get a film adaptation

In recent years we have seen all manner of successful video game franchises be adapted to the big and small screen alike. Even more are being announced on a near-constant basis. The latest hit game set to be turned into a feature film is the popular first-person indie creature-farming sim Slime Rancher.

As reported by Deadline, Story Kitchen (the production company founded by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad alongside Sonic the Hedgehog film producer Dmitri M. Johnson, and Mike Goldberg) has partnered with Slime Rancher developers Monomi Park to adapt the popular indie farming sim to the big screen.

In the past few years Story Kitchen has announced a whole host of different video game adaptations, including franchises such as Tomb Raider; Splinter Cell; Toejam & Earl; Streets of Rage and It Takes Two. While none of these projects have yet to release, the team behind the production company and their past credits seem to suggest that the IP will be in good hands.

While no further details were shared regarding the project, the original Slime Rancher has you play as Beatrix LeBeau, “a plucky, young rancher who sets out for a life a thousand light years away from Earth on the ‘Far, Far Range’ where she tries her hand at making a living wrangling slimes.”

Since the first game’s release back in 2017, Slime Rancher has gone on to sell more than 6 million copies and amassed a total audience of over 15 million. While unlikely to be the next big Summer blockbuster, it will be interesting to see what the team has planned for this film.
