Saints Row and Red Faction will “live on” despite studio closure

Last week we reported on the unfortunate news that Volition – the studio behind the Red Faction and Saints Row franchises – was being shut down by parent company Embracer Group. Despite the poor reception of 2022’s Saints Row reboot, the ex-studio’s publisher has now confirmed that Volition’s franchises will “live on.”

Taking to Twitter in response to the announcement of Volition’s closure, Saints Row publisher Deep Silver said “Our thoughts go out to everyone at @DSVolition, past and present. We're incredibly grateful for their unforgettable work on Saints Row and Red Faction, whose IPs will live on at @PLAION.”

For the uninitiated, Plaion was formerly known as Koch Media and is the parent company for a number of publishers including Deep Silver, Prime Matter and Ravenscourt. Even higher up the corporate ladder you can then find Embracer Group – who is in charge of over a dozen subsidiaries (including Plaion).

Confusing corporate structures aside, it is disappointing to see the shuttering of Volition after more than 30 years. Hopefully all of the studio’s former IPs end up in good hands.
