Resident Evil 9 will reportedly reinvent the franchise

For well over a year now, we’ve heard an increasing number of details surrounding Capcom’s next mainline RE title Resident Evil 9. While we’ve yet to get any official announcement, one known insider has claimed that the next game will reinvent the franchise – similar to RE4 and RE7.

Known Resident Evil leaker DuskGolem (who has reported on the upcoming game multiple times in the past) recently took to Twitter to explain the unusually long wait for the next Resident Evil title, writing:

“The thing I think people will realize when RE9 is revealed is the reason this game is taking so long is because it's like a big reinvention of the series, to the same level as RE4 & RE7.”

Explaining further, DuskGolem continued, “It's not going to play just like RE7/RE8 or the Remakes, it's trying new things & very ambitious. It will almost definitely be revealed this year, so just hold tight.”

If true, Resident Evil 9 will mark a major moment for the franchise, pushing the series to new heights and audiences.

Given the fact that RE4 turned the series into a 3rd-person action shooter and RE7 into a slower first-person experience, it will be interesting to see what Capcom has planned next. Based on previous leaks, the series could be going open world. We will have to wait and see.
