PUBG studio is making an extraction shooter

For many, PUBG was the first battle royale game they played, with the title breaking records and shifting the gaming landscape for quite a while following its launch back in 2017. Since then, industry trends have shifted away from BR games, with extraction shooters seemingly being the new hotness. In chasing these trends, the PUBG team have now announced that they are working on an extraction shooter titled ‘PUBG: Black Budget’.

As reported by ‘Insider-Gaming’ PUBG developers Krafton announced during their most recent financial call that the team is working on an extraction shooter known as Project Black Budget. Little else is known about the project besides the fact that it is slated to launch some time during the 2nd half of 2024.

As mentioned, PUBG was one of the pioneers of the battle royale genre, with countless replicas attempting to overthrow the record-breaking title. It wouldn’t be until the overwhelming success of Fortnite that PUBG began to lose some of its cache.

With Krafton being far from the first studio to announce that they are working on an extraction shooter, it will be interesting to see whether the team is able to garner the same levels of success that they saw with PUBG – or if Project Black Budget is simply a bit too behind the curve.
