PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida is leaving Sony after 30 years

PlayStation has had a lot of known names and faces over the console’s 30 year history. That said, perhaps the most well-known and loved is that of Shuhei Yoshida. After serving 31 years at PlayStation, Yoshida has announced that he’s leaving PlayStation to work on a new game.

During the most recent episode of the official PlayStation Podcast (and transcribed via the PlayStation Blog), Shuhei Yoshida – the previous President of PlayStation Studios and current Head of Indies – announced his upcoming departure after a 31 year stint at the company, saying:

“I have an announcement to make. I’m leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15 2025… it’s like announcing the launch date of a new game, [something] I haven’t done for a long time [laughs].”

Explaining his reasoning for leaving after so long, Shuhei claimed that “I’ve been with PlayStation from the beginning, and this is my 31st year with PlayStation. And when I hit 30 years, I was thinking, hmm, it may be about time for me to move on. You know, the company’s been doing great. I love PS5, I love the games that are coming out on this platform. And we have new generations of management who I respect and admire. And I’m so excited for the future of PlayStation. So you know, PlayStation is in really good hands. I thought, okay, this is my time.”

As mentioned, Shuhei Yoshida is a massive name in the PlayStation space, and so his unwavering positivity and welcoming vibes will be missed. Hopefully we hear more about his upcoming game sooner rather than later.
