No Man’s Sky celebrates 7th anniversary with new update announcement

The exploration focused open-universe game No Man’s Sky has been on quite the journey itself. Following years of hype, the indie game ultimately launched to a severe amount of disappointment from fans, with the game said to be lacking many of its promised features. 7 years on from its release and it would be hard to disagree with the sentiment that the team at Hello Games have gone above and beyond to repair and even elevate their reputation. Celebrating this milestone achievement, the team have now teased their next update.

In a short video released to YouTube, the team at Hello Games showcased the journey which No Man’s Sky has been on, including the game’s two-dozen massive-yet free-updates, saying “We can't quite believe that seven years have passed since launch. What a crazy journey!”

Unsurprisingly, Sean Murray and the team concluded the video with a tease for their next upcoming update, saying “Our journey continues with ECHOES – coming soon!”

As with every single other post-launch aspect of No Man’s Sky, ECHOES will be a free update to any and all who own the game. With more than 20 massive patches/updates released over the past 7 years, it is more than valid to say that No Man’ Sky is so much more than the game it was originally promised to be – and all those who previously berated the studio for the state of the game at launch would gladly say that Hello Games have redeemed themselves.

It will be interesting to see what the next 7 years of both No Man’s Sky and Hello Games holds.
