New Xbox dashboard update features major QoL improvements

Xbox has spent many years refining its Dashboard software, now offering a consistent experience across its console generations. Despite this, the console manufacturer is constantly improving features while adding new ones in. For the month of March, Xbox owners can look forward to a number of useful quality of life improvements.

Making the announcement on the Xbox Wire blog, Jonathan Hildebrandt, the Principal Group Program Manager at Xbox Experiences announced that Xbox users would be seeing a new update to their dashboard this month, saying:

“This month’s update includes the ability to pin up to two games in Quick Resume, options to remap the Share button on Xbox Wireless Controllers, and a new audio setup wizard.”

Going into slightly more detail, the improvements to Quick Resume – powered by the ‘innovative Xbox Velocity Architecture in Xbox Series X|S’ – allows you to pin two games in Quick Resume at any given time, letting you pick up exactly where you left off with no manual saving required.

The share button remapping is a small but useful addition. While all console manufacturers have adorned share buttons onto their systems in some capacity, many users show no interest in such features. It is therefore exciting to see that the dedicated button can now be remapped to almost whatever you want.

Finally, Microsoft has added a new Audio Setup Wizard to allow for an easier time when utilising more complicated audio setups. This new Wizard lets you “test and verify your HDMI audio format, test all your speakers connected to your Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, and configure the best possible settings for your unique A/V setup.”

While nothing industry shattering, all of these small improvements help to make for a much more efficient and enjoyable user experience – and the rate at which such features are added is worth commending. It will be interesting to see what they have planned for April.
