Naughty Dog’s next game after TLOU Factions is already in development

With HBO’s The Last of Us finale recently concluding, Naughty Dog co-president and The Last of Us Part II director Neil Druckmann recently sat down with Kinda Funny for a ‘spoilercast’ in which he revealed a bunch of details on what the team is working on, including the fact that their next game after the TLOU Factions multiplayer title will seemingly not be Part III.

As part of Kinda Funny’s TLOU spoilercast, Druckmann revealed that lots more information on the team’s next game – that being the Factions multiplayer live-service title – will be “coming later in the year.”

While we have in the past seen Naughty Dog tackle multiple projects at once, the team has in recent years put all hands on deck for each project. That said, according to Druckmann, the studio has restructured itself in order to facilitate the development of multiple games at the same time – no matter whether it is a sequel or a new IP.

With that, Druckmann confirmed that the next game after TLOU’s factions is already in development, and even more interestingly, while it seemed initially as though the team were moving on to TLOU Part III, the expected third entry will likely be percolating for a while, with Druckmann claiming that the next project is not Part III but is still something that the entire studio picked due to it being set to keep them excited for years to come – suggesting that it is likely a brand new IP,

As with the first game, The Last of Us Part II concluded in a poetic way which could easily be the end of the story. But as with Part I, Naughty Dog knows how to make a good sequel and so a potential Part III would undoubtedly be excellent. That said, let Part III cook. It will be interesting to see what this new project is.
