NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM CONNECTIONS announced

The Naruto series has entertained and engrossed fans both old and young for decades now, with the story of Naruto Uzumaki’s journey to become Hokage reaching millions upon millions of fans. While the mainline manga series ended all the way back in 2014, Naruto’s legacy continues with the Boruto sequel series. Still, we have seen very few Naruto games since the conclusion of the series, and so it is exciting to be finally getting a new game for current-gen consoles.

Announced during Sony’s most recent State of Play (and expounded upon through the PlayStation Blog), Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections has been described as “the next entry in the series of Ultimate Ninja Storm” planned for release some time later this year.

The Naruto games have always had huge rosters, but this latest title will be taking it to the next level, featuring the 124 characters from Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Road to Boruto while also including “additional new characters” – though few specifics were shared (but we do know of at least two new additions: Ashura Otsuki and Indra Otsuki).

Similarly, the situation surrounding the originality of the game’s story is somewhat unconfirmed, with Bandai Namco so far claiming that “Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series illustrates Naruto’s story with anime shots and game battles that you can relive. This game combines and re-edits the selected scenes from the four Ultimate Ninja STORM games, brushing up graphics as much as possible, making it a must for players who have already experienced the series in the post.   Furthermore, a new original game story will also be available in the game. Please stay tuned for more information on that and other reveals ahead of launch!”

While it seems as though Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is not a wholly new game in its own right, the title seems to be more than a simple compilation or remaster, and so we will have to wait for more details to be shared closer to release. All that said, being able to play an Ultimate Ninja Storm game at 60fps on PS5 will be exciting regardless.
