MSFS 2024 to get massive simulation improvements

During Microsoft’s recent Summer Game Fest Showcase, the console manufacturer announced a surprise sequel to 2020’s Microsoft Flight Simulator. Set to arrive next year, the team at Asobo have now revealed many of the changes set to come with the sequel.

As part of the 2023 FlightSimExpo, Jorg Neumann – the head of Microsoft Flight Simulator – and Sebastian Wloch, CEO of Asobo Studio, took to the stage to show off just some of the MANY changes, additions and improvements set to arrive alongside Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

As collated by ResetEra user Rhaast, one of the biggest new features announced previously is the ability to take on over a dozen jobs, with the team now explaining “We're not a game, so we're not making gamey-type missions at all, we're doing this accurate aviation activities. Working with many organizations that do Fire-fighting, that do search and rescue.”

Despite going bigger, the game’s client will fortunately be reduced in size alongside a reduction in internet usage and installation/loading times. Featuring a new physics and aerodynamics engine, MSFS 2024 is running on a rewritten engine which allows for performance improvements; multithreading; rigid and Soft bodies as well as tissues and ropes physics.

Going even deeper down the simulation route, Flight Simulator 2024 will include electrical, pneumatic, fuel, hydraulic systems; a failure and wear & tear system; payload & passenger system; and deeper/wider avionics packages.

Finally, in talking about the world detail, Asobo has used machine learning to add significantly more to the planet, including 3D trees; 3D rocks with proper surface details/detail map and tessellation; Improved ground details; 3D tessellated ground materials; enhanced tree diversity; improved cliffs; full seasons; aurora borealis; tornados; storms; animal herds and migrations; worldwide ship traffic; accurate live air traffic and improved vehicle traffic.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 looks to be a massive evolution over the previous game, taking an already excellent and well-loved title and revamping it once again.
