Microsoft report claims PS5’s Wolverine will release in 2023

Microsoft and Sony have been locked in a back and forth regarding the Xbox manufacturer’s intentions to acquire publisher Activision Blizzard for almost $70 Billion. A secondary effect of this engagement is the fact that many ‘inside baseball’ details are being revealed. One new interesting tidbit claims that Insomniac Games’ Wolverine will be released in 2023.

As part of the ongoing Activision Blizzard acquisition situation, Microsoft submitted a document to the CMA in which (as discovered by tech4gamers) the console manufacturer made some bold statements regarding competitor Sony’s upcoming output in order to defend the acquisition, saying:

“PlayStation also has a spate of first- and third-party exclusive titles lined up for launch in 2023, including Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, Horizon, Final Fantasy XVI and Forspoken.”

Spider-Man 2, Horizon Call of the Mountain, Final Fantasy XVI and Forspoken have all been confirmed to be releasing some time in 2023. That being said, Insomniac’s Wolverine has had no such treatment, with many fans expecting it to come out much later.

Insomniac Games is of course currently working on Spider-Man 2, which as mentioned by Microsoft is planned for release in 2023. Them also then releasing Wolverine in 2023 not only seems to make little sense but is deemed infeasible by most.

That being said, Insomniac Games is known for being a highly efficient studio, with them being known for releasing multiple games in a 12-month period (such as with Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart) – and so we will simply have to wait and see.
