Lords of the Fallen sequel is now called ‘Lords of the Fallen’

Lords of the Fallen was one of the first major Souls-like titles to be released. Launched in 2014, the game received mixed reviews across the board. The team at Hexworks announced last year that they have been working on a sequel titled ‘The Lords of the Fallen’. As we have seen with other games however, the sequel to Lords of the Fallen is dropping the ‘The’ and will now simply be known as Lords of the Fallen.

As part of Epic Games’ State of Unreal presentation at GDC 2023, publisher CI Games and studio Hexworks showed off the technology of The Lords of the Fallen, showcasing impressively detailed environments, character models and some combat animations.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the showcase however was in the reveal of the name, with the game no longer being called The Lords of the Fallen – and will instead simply be ‘Lords of the Fallen’. In order to avoid confusion with the first game (which shares the exact same name as this new title), the first entry will now be known as Lords of the Fallen (2014).

Of course, this isn’t the first game to reuse the exact name of the series’ debut entry, but it may very well be the only one to do so on its immediate sequel. ‘Layers of Fears’ was announced to have its name changed to Layers of Fear (the same as its first entry), but at the very least that series saw two games released before going back to its original namesake. Why Hexworks chose to go this route is unknown, but at the very least Lords of the Fallen looks much better than Lords of the Fallen.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the name change? What about the footage shown? Why do you think they went this route with the name? Let us know down below.
