Konami discusses the future potential for Castlevania following Dead Cells crossover

Dead Cells is no stranger to crossovers. That said, many fans were left both surprised and excited by the announcement that the rogue-lite metroidvania would be getting Castlevania DLC. With the Return to Castlevania crossover now live, Konami has officially addressed the future of the classic franchise.

In an interview conducted by IGN, Konami executive Tsuromu Taniguchi spoke on what this DLC could mean for the future of the long-dormant Castlevania franchise, saying “We know that our fans always want more,” and that the “excitement and enthusiasm of the fans online [is] really motivating for [Konami].”

Speaking on some of their recent efforts, Taniguchi said “We tried to bring back the games that people loved and cherished with the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Castlevania Advance Collection, we also brought back Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night for our PlayStation fans and on mobile, and launched Grimoire of Souls on Apple Arcade to celebrate the lore of the franchise.”

Looking to the future though, they continued, “But we know that our fans always want more, and we do too, so this opportunity to have this amazing crossover with Dead Cells was impossible to pass up on.”

Castlevania remains one of Konami’s most well-loved franchises and while the publisher still seems somewhat apprehensive to dive back into major video game development, hopefully the early success of the Return to Castlevania DLC shows just how much fans want a proper new game in the series.
