Kojima rejected “ridiculously high” acquisition offers

In recent years we have seen all manner of publishers engage in acquisition sprees, with companies small and large splashing their cash in order to absorb other developers and publishers. One company which seemingly cannot be bought is Kojima Productions, with the man himself revealing that he has turned down “ridiculously high” acquisition offers.

As part of Hideo Kojima’s Brain Structure Podcast (transcribed by Metro), the game creator discussed the recent acquisition race which has been going on between the likes of Sony, Microsoft, Embracer Group, Tencent, and so many more. Speaking on this, Kojima stated:

“Let me reiterate that we are indies. We have no affiliations whatsoever and we are not backed by anyone. And every day I am approached by offers all over the world to buy our studio. Some of those offers are ridiculously high prices but it's not that I want money. I want to make what I want to make. That's why I created this studio.”

Of all people, Kojima is fully aware of the potential disadvantages that come with aligning oneself with a publisher (you need look no further than at PT and MGSV for proof of this) and so to see him remain resolute in his independence is commendable.
