July’s PS Plus Extra titles see 48% drop in players

Each month, Sony updates its PlayStation Plus Extra library with a line-up of half a dozen or so titles, giving subscribers new games to try out and play. That said, despite some pretty decent additions in July, overall player counts have dropped by almost 50% since June.

As reported by PlayStation stats tracker TrueTrophies, the player count for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers for July dropped significantly from the month prior – by 48%.

This does not mean that the number of subscribers dropped, but just their engagement with the new games added for the month of July. This is somewhat surprising as July’s additions did feature some pretty big titles, including Remnant II; Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion; Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord and No More Heroes 3.

That said, June’s line-up was boosted by PlayStation’s annual Days of Play event, and so this is likely partially to blame.

Furthermore, unlike with this year’s event, 2023’s Days of Play offered heavy discounts on annual PS Plus subscriptions, and so some of the player drop off may in fact be due to recently-lapsed subscriptions.

Despite this, PS Plus Extra remains a pretty solid service overall, and so it would not be surprising to see August’s numbers increase once again.
