IO Interactive offers updates on 007 and Project Fantasy

With IO Interactive taking a break away from the HITMAN World of Assassination, the team have been working on a number of new projects – namely a 007 game based on the iconic James Bond franchise alongside their own original IP known simply as Project Fantasy. Now, the team have offered updates on both titles, including their exclusivity status.

In an interview conducted by Gamereactor, IOI’s core engine programmer Álvaro Fernández and senior technical executive producer Cris Vega spoke on the status of both 007 and Project Fantasy.

While both titles remain under wraps for now, the team did offer a bit of information on the James Bond title, saying “007 is under development, it's looking very cool” adding that the game is “going to tell the story of the first Bond and how it becomes the secret agent that he is, but that's what we can comment on.”

The team were slightly more candid regarding their original IP known simply as Project Fantasy, with Álvaro Fernández stating that “”Yeah, [it's an] online multiplayer RPG and likely will be like any other IOI game, probably will be on console and PC, but nothing is confirmed, it's still some years until it will release, so yeah.”

While many had assumed that Project Fantasy would be an Xbox exclusive due to the game’s prior marketing, IOI seemingly somewhat refuted this suggestion, with Fernández claiming that its exclusivity status is currently undetermined, saying “there's nothing clear for us, so I don't think any word came out about any specifics about this, so we cannot comment on it.”

IO Interactive have worked pretty much exclusively on the HITMAN series ever since the company’s founding all the way back in 1998 (with some exceptions such as Kane & Lynch in the 2000s) and so it will be highly interesting to see what both 007 and Project Fantasy end up looking and playing like.
