Halo: Combat Evolved is getting another remaster, according to insider

With Halo: Infinite failing to become the 10-year live-service juggernaut that Xbox was hoping it would be, the state of the iconic franchise is currently in limbo. That said, according to one industry insider, Microsoft is set to go back to the well, remastering the original Halo: Combat Evolved for the second time.

As reported by known industry insider Tom Warren via The Verge (and shared by ResetEra user ‘Judge’), “Microsoft is reportedly in early stages of working on a remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved and is considering launching it on PlayStation 5.”

This would be an odd decision on the part of Microsoft, as Halo: Combat Evolved already received a remaster in the form of the Halo Master Chief Collection. Of course, bringing the game to PS5 would certainly be one reason to upgrade the classic shooter, but it would be quite confusing – assuming it is another remaster as opposed to a full-on remake.

While Halo: The Master Chief Collection is almost a decade old at this point, the games still hold up as remasters, and so only in going for a full-on remake would such a move make sense. That said, the distinction between remaster and remake is tenuous in the eyes of some, and so perhaps Warren’s sources have used the term interchangeably.

We will have to wait and see, but it’ll be curious how hardcore Halo fans react to such an announcement.
