Grounded officially leaves Early Access as game hits ver. 1.0

Grounded is one of the more interesting titles published by Xbox Game Studios. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, this ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’ styled survival game has spent the past many years in Early Access. Two years on and 10 million players later, Grounded has officially gone 1.0.

Alongside a trailer signifying the game’s 1.0 release, Obsidian Entertainment said “Grounded's Full Release is here! Find out answers to the questions that over 10 million players have been waiting for such as how the teens got into the backyard and who is responsible for placing them there in the fully playable campaign – all of which can be experienced alone or with a group of friends! New armor recipes, new weapon recipes, and the Orchid Mantis await players in the largest update to reach the backyard! Play today and finally Go Big and Go Home!”

Since Grounded’s Early Access launch back in 2020, the game has seen a whole host of improvements and additions, with the game going from six biomes to explore and 14 creatures to interact with to now offering “13 biomes, three of which have had massive overhauls, 44 creatures, including the giant koi fish and bird, and a whole host of features to flesh out the game.”

Alongside a plethora of secrets, the 1.0 update adds “10 total minutes of pre-rendered cutscenes and hundreds of additional lines of dialogue; eight new creatures, three new bosses, five new armor sets, nine new weapons, new building materials, several new features” – to name a few.

It’s not often you see first-party titles take the Early Access route. In the case of Grounded, the time spent seems to have been to the game’s benefit with Grounded now offering a full and complete experience. Hopefully the game continues to get new content past 1.0 in the future.
