Gran Turismo 7’s VR update detailed including new showroom

Recently we reported that Gran Turismo 7 is set to get a VR update come the release of the next generation PlayStation VR2 headset later this month. Ahead of its launch, Polyphony Digital has fully detailed and explained this upcoming update – including the full scope of the game’s VR support.

Taking to their blog, the Polyphony Digital team detailed exactly what fans can expect from GT7 when the free VR update goes live on the 21st of February. We already knew that the VR support would be comprehensive, however the full details have now been shared, with them saying:

“With this free upgrade, players will be able to experience all the races and game modes (excluding ‘2P Split Screen' mode) with a whole new level of realism. PS VR2 players will also be able to access an exclusive ‘VR Showroom' area from their ‘Garage’ or the in-game car dealerships where they can admire all the stunning details of the ultra high-definition car models in a variety of locations and lighting settings.”

Though not unexpected given the specs of the headset, Polyphony Digital confirmed that GT7 will use many of the headset’s unique hardware elements, including its “specially optimised HDR tone mapping, as well as foveated rendering from the eye-tracking feature…and dynamic 3D audio support.”

Finally, the team spoke briefly on this newly revealed VR showroom, explaining that players will be able to “Admire the stunning details of your vehicles in ultra-high definition with 12 selectable backgrounds. Vehicles can be viewed from a variety of angles, and you can even move inside the car with a single button press. Players can enjoy exploring every single car inside and out.”

While not a VR exclusive experience, it is beginning to look as though GT7 may just be one of the most exciting PSVR2 titles and could very well be a system-seller. We will have to wait and see.
