God of War Ragnarök will offer 4 performance modes

One of the best aspects to the most recent generation of consoles is the fact that they offer enough graphical headroom, allowing for multiple performance options to be added to games. Unsurprisingly, one of the best publishers in this regard is none other than Sony themselves, with God of War Ragnarök confirmed to offer 4 different performance modes.

Previews for the upcoming God of War Ragnarök have gone live ahead of the game’s launch on the 9th of November, with ‘press-start’ reporting on the game’s many performance modes on PlayStation 5.

According to the publication, God of War Ragnarök will offer 4 modes:

  • Favour Resolution – 4K/30FPS Locked
  • Favour Performance – 60 FPS Locked
  • Favour Resolution (High Frame Rate On) – 4K/40FPS Locked
  • Favour Performance (High Frame Rate On) – Unlocked Up To 120 FPS

While 30fps and 60fps options were expected, the addition of a native 4K at 40fps and the option for a 120fps mode is exciting and allows for players to pick precisely what type of performance they prefer.

It is worth noting that currently, the 120fps mode seems to be somewhat unstable, with framerates said to be hovering closer to 100fps. Still, with a VRR display, such hiccups should be no issue – and with the game still weeks from release, there is plenty of time for Santa Monica Studio to optimise the game.
