Ghost of Tsushima has biggest launch week of any first-party PS4 title in Japan

Recently we reported that Ghost of Tsushima was suffering from stock shortages in Japan due to the sheer amount of demand for the title in the country. Now, more specifics on the game’s success has been revealed, with Ghost of Tsushima officially scoring the biggest launch week of any first-party PS4 game in the country.

According to the Famitsu weekly rankings (as translated by ResetEra user Zedark), Ghost of Tsushima sold 212,915 copies in its first week on sale in Japan, putting it in first place right above Death Stranding, which sold 185,909 copies. Underneath that is the recently released The Last of Us Part II, selling 178,696 copies. It is worth noting however that worldwide, The Last of Us Part II reigns supreme, selling over 4 million copies in 3 days.

Still, the sales success of Ghost of Tsushima in Japan is commendable and Sucker Punch Productions’ respect for the title and its inspirations is clear – especially as the game focuses heavily on Japanese culture and traditions.
