Final Fantasy VII gets free PS5 upgrade; new DLC

Last night, PlayStation held a State of Play showcase, giving fans a look at many upcoming PS5 titles. Though most of the announcements were to be expected, the biggest title was left until the end: Final Fantasy VII Remake will receive a free PS5 upgrade alongside “ a brand new episode featuring Yuffie as the main character,” titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

Launching on the 10th of June, all PS4 owners of Final Fantasy VII Remake will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version entirely for free. The enhancements brought about by this new version includes “improved textures, lighting and atmospheric fog,” as well as a 4K mode, or a 60fps mode. Furthermore, full Dualsense support has been added for improved haptics, faster loading times, and last but not least, a photo mode.

As mentioned, all of this will be given for free. That being said, at the same time, Square Enix will release a new episode for purchase which will allow you to “play as ninja Yuffie Kisaragi as she infiltrates the shadowy Shinra corporation to steal a powerful Materia and restore glory to her homeland. Play alongside new characters and enjoy an expanded gameplay experience featuring multiple new combat and gameplay additions. This adventure brings new perspective to the FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE story that cannot be missed.”

Currently there is no word on how much this episode will cost, nor how long it will be. Judging by the trailer however, the episode does appear to offer a lot of content for fans of the game. Though still a few months away, it does seem as though Square Enix has put a lot of love and attention into this enhanced version of Final Fantasy VII Remake. And for the price of ‘free’, fans couldn't ask for much more than this.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the trailer? Are you excited for the enhancements? Will you play through the game again on PS5? Let us know down below.
