Farming Simulator 22 breaks records with 6 million copies sold

While the ‘Simulator’ subgenre’s heyday may be behind us, many highly successful franchises have spawned from the genre and persist to this day. One of the most notable is the Farming Simulator series – whose most recent entry has now broken records.

Ever since 2008, the team at GIANTS Software have released a new Farming Simulator on an almost annual basis, with the series’ most recent widely-released entry being Farming Simulator 22. A little over two years since its launch, the team at GIANTS Software have announced a new record for the series, taking to their website to say:

“Virtual farms are thriving as publisher and developer GIANTS Software reports the growing success of Farming Simulator 22: Including the subsequent Platinum Edition & Premium Edition of the game, the self-published Farming Simulator 22 has sold more than six million copies since its initial release in November 2021. Other milestones have been reached in terms of multiplayer activity and available mods.”

Speaking of those other milestones, Farming Simulator 22 has surpassed 100,000 active multiplayer servers; “an all-time high in server activity.”

Last but certainly not least, the team took time to celebrate its modding scene, stating that “Farming Simulator 22 has also surpassed its predecessor in terms of available mods, with over 5,600 modifications available on the official ModHub. Hands-on tested by GIANTS Software's internal QA team, these mods are accessible directly from within the game. With an impressive 1.4 billion downloads, representing approximately half of all mod downloads in the series since its inception in 2008, user-generated content continues to grow in popularity.”

While certainly a niche in its own right, the popularity of the Farming Simulator series is undeniable.
