Fallout 4’s free ‘next-gen’ update is unavailable for PS Plus players; fine on Game Pass

As part of the PlayStation 5’s launch, Sony offered 20 PS4 titles for free to all those with a PlayStation Plus subscription. One of the included games was Fallout 4 (since then also finding its way onto PS Plus Extra). With FO4’s next-gen update finally available to download and play, those who own the title through PS Plus have discovered that the ‘free’ update might not be so free after all.

As reported by IGN, despite being advertised as a free upgrade, the next-gen update for Fallout 4 is not available to those who got the game through PS Plus in the past. Instead, players will have to cough up an additional £15.99, with the PS Store stating that “You already own another edition.”

This isn’t the first time that PS Plus players have run into this issue, with Final Fantasy VII Remake’s PS5 upgrade initially being locked for PS Plus owners – though this was admittedly fixed quite quickly.

Still, the fact that Game Pass owners are able to obtain the upgrade while those on PS Plus currently cannot is an interesting…decision? Oversight? We will have to wait and see.
