F-Zero 99 battle royale announced and released

Nintendo owns some of the most iconic video game IPs, however many of them have not seen any new entries in years – or even decades. One such franchise is F-Zero: the hyperfast futuristic racing series. Almost 20 years after its last entry, the franchise has been somewhat revived with the surprise announcement and release of F-Zero 99.

As can be gleaned from the name, F-Zero 99 is another Nintendo Switch Online exclusive game, similar in vein to the likes of Tetris 99 and Pac-Man 99. It is a reimagining of the classic SNES title, this time featuring 99 total online players in a battle-royale race to first place.

Players will need to balance their power meter in order to stay in the race, ensuring that they do not crash into rivals or even the guard rails. Another new addition sees the inclusion of super sparks which when collected will allow you to reach a new path high above the rest of the players. F-Zero 99 also includes cosmetic unlocks, making for a more replayable experience.

All-in-all, this latest entry to the 99-series is a welcome one indeed, and not only shows that Nintendo has not forgotten about F-Zero, but have made what appears to be a genuinely fun experience. F-Zero 99 is available right now for all those with a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
