External studios are working on Horizon games

The Horizon franchise has quickly climbed the ranks, becoming one of PlayStation’s biggest franchises. It seems the console manufacturer wants to capitalise on this, as it appears that a number of externally-developed Horizon games are in the works.

Guerilla Games – the studio behind Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West – recently published a job posting for a co-dev producer; the description of which reads as follows:

“As a Co-Dev Producer at Guerrilla, you will help us expand the Horizon universe in new and exciting directions. In this role, you will be part of a specialized group overseeing externally produced game projects.”

This seems to all-but confirm the existence of other Horizon games in the works aside from 2022’s Horizon Forbidden West (especially as the listing asks that applicants “have extensive knowledge of Horizon Zero Dawn”). While very little is known about these projects, previous rumours did suggest that a VR Horizon game was being developed at Firesprite studios.

A PSVR 2 is on its way, and while not much is known officially, patents, leaks and more have all pointed towards it being a powerful and versatile peripheral. Unlike the first-gen PSVR, this new device is looking to be much more modern and capable of handling full and comprehensive games. With that, it would not be surprising to see one of the most successful new franchises adapted into many different mediums. For those who have no interest in VR, hopefully other games are in the works.
