Ex-Far Cry and Battlefield devs form new studio

We have increasingly seen video game developers moving away from major publishers in order to go independent and create their own studios. Such is the case with Moon Rover Games – a brand new indie studio formed by a number of ex-Far Cry and Battlefield developers.

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, Moon Rover Games is a brand new studio formed by developers who have worked on a whole host of franchises including Far Cry, Battlefield, and Crusader Kings.

The studio is said to be taking this knowledge and using it to expand to uncharted territory – with a primary focus on emergent gameplay. Speaking on this to Gamesindustry.biz, Moon Rover Games creative director Jamie Keen said:

“There's something around emergent game experiences, a slight loss of control around the way the game works that I just really love,” adding that “There's this kind of joy you see within players when they get to experience this stuff, when they get a system that feels like it has a life of its own. That's something we really want to push forward with.”

All that said, Keen did stress that their titles will not go as far as the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild, but will still feature plenty of unique moments, saying “This will be a more contained versions of things. We want this sense of direction and familiarity, but also the sense of novelty that you get when the best of [Far Cry and Battlefield's approaches] are combined.”

The full interview can be found HERE and goes into much greater depth behind the mentality of the devs and what knowledge they are bringing to this new role and studio, but regardless, it will be interesting to see what the team at Moon Rover Games has cooking.
