Even more publishers are reportedly skipping E3

Over the past few years we have seen the influence and relevance of E3 dwindle, with many publishers opting instead to host their own much cheaper events – be it in-person or simply online. 2023 was meant to represent the grand return of E3, however it seems this may ultimately not pan out as planned, with even more publishers pulling out from the event.

As reported by IGN, both SEGA and Tencent are seemingly set to skip this year’s E3, joining the ever-growing list of non-attendees which includes heavy hitters such as Nintendo, Sony, Xbox, and Ubisoft.

As no official announcement has yet to be made, it is unknown exactly why these publishers are dropping out, but as claimed by IGN, there has been a significant lack of communication and clarity on the part of E3’s organisers – namely the ESA and ReedPop.

According to IGN, in the past plans for E3 would have been firmly in place by now – however this has not happened. With E3 supposedly set to go live in early June, that leaves just over two months for the event to come together.

Considering the fact that studios and publishers plan for E3 months and months ahead of time, this ticking clock does not bode well for the event. Hopefully the ESA/ReedPop offer some much needed clarity sooner rather than later.
