Death Stranding surpasses 16 million players

Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions took a big risk when they chose to develop Death Stranding: A delivery simulator with divisive gameplay and ‘frustrating’ mechanics. Despite this, the game managed to find its audience – and while it may have had a relatively slow start – Death Stranding has now been officially played by over 16 million people.

As part of a press release announcing that Kojima Productions is partnering with movie distributor A24 for the Death Stranding film, the studio revealed updated stats for the game – announcing that the title had surpassed 16 million players.

Of course, 16 million players does not equate to 16 million copies sold, but it is still impressive nonetheless – especially as around this time last year the game had only just hit 10 million players.

With Death Stranding continuing to find new audiences every day and a film adaptation on the way, it will be interesting to see just how much bigger of a deal Death Stranding 2 will be.
