Dead Island 2 expansions announced

After spending years in development hell, Dead Island 2 finally released earlier this year to a surprisingly high amount of fanfare. With well over 2 million copies sold, the team at Dambuster Studios have now announced the game’s first set of DLC as well as its two upcoming expansions.

Making the announcement on their blog, the Dead Island 2 team said “You've been asking for it, and today is the day. With two upcoming downloadable content releases and additional, exciting cosmetic updates, players can look forward to a new level of adventure in Dead Island 2. Let's dive into what awaits:”

Right now, players can get their hands on two small sets of DLC: the Premium Character Packs as well as the ‘Til Dawn’ Collection. The premium character packs include 6 new paid skins for the playable characters alongside a new unique weapon for each (though any of the slayers can use any weapon).

The Til Dawn Collection meanwhile includes 6 free skins which can be earned following the conclusion of the “Call the Cavalry” mission. More free skins will be made available over the course of 2023 via Prime Gaming Rewards.

Though only briefly teased, the two major expansions for Dead Island 2 were detailed, with the first ‘Haus’ asking “How does a billionaire prepare for the zompocalypse? A techno-death cult with a healthy splash of debauchery and gore!” Haus is planned for release in Q4 of 2023.

‘SOLA Festival’ meanwhile will release sometime in Q2 2024 and is described as follows: “Welcome to the SOLA festival, where LA's party people can greenwash their way to ecstasy and save the planet, one rave at a time. So L.A!”

With how well-received the base game ended up being, hopefully the two expansions continue to keep Dead Island in the limelight for as long as possible.
