Counter-Strike 2 becomes lowest rated Valve game ever

The initial announcement for Counter-Strike 2 was at first met with a great deal of excitement, as many fans never expected to see a new entry in their beloved series – especially as CS:GO was released well over a decade ago. Unfortunately, CS2’s launch last month was met with quite a bit of criticism – now making it the lowest rated game in Valve’s history.

Recently we reported that CS2 had seen an influx of negative reviews on the game’s Steam store page, with complaints ranging from the existence of bugs, hitbox issues and of course, the complete removal of CS:GO in favour of Counter-Strike 2.

Due to the fact that CS2 took over the Steam listing for CS:GO, the overall rating for the game remains ‘Very Positive’. That said, the title had accumulated more than 7 million reviews over the course of CS:GO’s decade+ on the market, meaning it will likely take a great deal more negative press for the overall rating on Steam to drop to ‘Mostly Positive’ or below.

That said, across 165,000 recent reviews, CS2 currently has a ‘Mixed’ rating – making it the lowest reviewed game ever released by Valve, tied with the ill-fated card game Artifact. As CS2 continues to be updated and its issues fixed, the rating will likely go back up. That said, the fact that CS:GO was removed in its entirety will probably frustrate a certain subsect of fans for quite some time.

Despite this, Counter Strike remains one of Steam's biggest games, with the title currently seeing a concurrent player count of just under a million – making it by far the most popular game on the platform right now. Hopefully the team at Valve are able to address the ongoing issues.
