Baldur’s Gate 3 has sold “way over” 10 million copies

Baldur’s Gate 3 was by far one of the biggest success stories of 2023, with the game arriving seemingly out of nowhere to rave reviews across the board and an influx of newly invested players. Though no official sales figures have been shared, the RPG has been confirmed to have sold “way over” 10 million copies.

In a Tweet thread shared by the director of publishing at Larian Studios (known online as Cromwelp), it was revealed that the game has at the very least sold over 10 million copies. Discussing the previously-promised update to add mod support to Baldur’s gate 3, Cromwelp said:

“We’ll be talking in depth about what our mod support will look like soon. Been working on it since launch. As always, we’ll discuss it in our way with our community. Threats & toxicity against our devs & community teams will only harm the conversation. Please stop that.”

They continued, “This is a game that went from ~2 mil players to way over 10 in a very short space of time, so it’s natural the conversation becomes muddier and complex. But in order to maintain the same level of dialogue, we need people to understand that these conversations take time.”

Of course, the primary sentiment shared here is the fact that players should not harass the developers. That said, it is interesting to see that the game has officially sold 10 million copies at the very least – though considering the fact that BG3 was the best-selling Steam game of 2023, it is perhaps not too surprising.
