Baldur’s Gate 3 estimated to have sold 15 million copies

Despite being by far the biggest success story of 2023, Larian Studios have been rather cagey when it comes to discussing Baldur’s Gate 3’s sales figures. That said, the team have offered enough clues to suggest that the universally-praised RPG has sold around 15 million copies.

During a recent interview with Gamespot Larian Studios’ founder and CEO Swen Vincke spoke on all manner of topics surrounding Baldur’s Gate 3 – from its past, to the present and future.

In discussing the overwhelming success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Swen Vinke revealed that “It's almost doubled DOS2 [Divinity Original Sin 2] now, so it's doing really really well as DOS2 was very successful. So it did beyond what we expected.”

Though no concrete figures were shared, as calculated by Son of Sparda, the game is likely to have sold around 15 million copies due to the fact that DOS2 was said to have tripled its predecessor’s sales back in 2019 – with that game selling 2.5 million copies at the time.

Basic multiplication aside, it is safe to say that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be a contender for one of the best selling games of 2024, despite releasing last Summer.

KitGuru says: Are you surprised by BG3’s sales? Will it reach 20 million copies sold? What about 25 million? Let us know down below.
