Back 4 Blood support ends as studio shifts to next project

Turtle Rock Studios revived the Left 4 Dead series through a spiritual successor known as Back 4 Blood. Released back in October 2021, post-launch support for the title has officially ended, with the team now focusing on their next project.

Making the announcement on their blog, the team at Turtle Rock Studios said “Greetings, Cleaners! What an amazing year 2022 was for us. First off, we wanted to thank all of you for making Back 4 Blood what it is today. With three expansions – Tunnels of Terror, Children of the Worm, and River of Blood – we’ve traveled on a fantastic adventure together beyond the walls of Fort Hope. This phase of our war against the Ridden now comes to a close.”

Explaining the reasoning behind Back 4 Blood’s end-of-life, the team continued, “Turtle Rock Studios is actually pretty small for a studio making AAA games. We don’t have quite enough folks to continue working on Back 4 Blood content while we spin up another game – yes, another game! Given this, it’s time for us to put our heads down, get back in the lab, and get to work on the next big thing.”

Finally, Turtle Rock Studios concluded by saying “While we may be a bit quieter in the short-term, we promise that we’ll be Back, bigger, bolder and better than ever! With much love and gratitude, Turtle Rock Studios.”

Back 4 Blood may not have set the world on fire, but the game did find an audience, and while post-launch support may have ended sooner than expected, the game was well supported and so it seems to have simply been the right time for the team to move on.
