The launch of Astro Bot back in September marked a major moment for the PlayStation 5 console, with the family-friendly 3D platformer breaking genre records upon its release (Mario aside). While we did not have any concrete figures at the time, Sony has now confirmed that Astro Bot managed to sell 1.5 million copies in its first 2 months on the market.

As announced during the company’s most recent fiscal earnings report, Sony confirmed that since its launch on the 6th of September, Astro Bot from Team Asobi has managed to sell a total of 1.5 million copies (as of the 3rd of November).

While this may seem somewhat quaint in comparison to Sony’s other first-party offerings (and especially compared to the Mario series), the console maker noted that 37% of all sales for the game came from new users – meaning those who have not purchased a PlayStation-published game in the past two years.

Given the fact that Astro Bot seems to be attracting its own new audience of players – and that it broke multiple genre records (Mario excluded) – it is safe to assume that the game will continue to sell well into the future as an evergreen title. Hopefully a sequel is in the works.
