Assassin’s Creed Shadows surpasses 1 million players on day-one

After a ton of waiting and many delays, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is finally here. While Ubisoft’s latest AC title may not be able to singlehandedly dig the publisher out of the hole it’s found itself in, initial response to the game appears solid, with the title having surpassed 1 million players in just a couple hours.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Assassin’s Creed page wrote “It's not even 4PM here in Canada and Assassin's Creed Shadows has already passed 1 million players! Thank YOU from the bottom of our hearts for joining this adventure in Feudal Japan. We are beyond excited to start this journey with you!”

While an impressive figure, given that the game only launched at 2PM in the region, Ubisoft made sure to specify that Shadows had amassed 1 million players – not 1 million copies solid.

Shadows 1 million

With the publisher’s offering of its Ubisoft+ subscription (which includes day-one titles), it is unknown how many of these 1 million players are buyers and how many are playing through Ubisoft’s service.

All that said, the publisher isn’t one to shy away from celebrating a game’s success, and so we will have to wait and see what else Ubisoft has to say about Assassin’s Creed Shadows over the coming days.
