Ubisoft is betting a lot on Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Thanks to a number of less-than-stellar releases, controversies and the like, the publisher has been on the verge of being sold off for quite some time. Unfortunately, it seems as though – despite the added delays for increased polish – AC: Shadows is more or less just another Ubisoft title.
With a Metacritic score of 82 and an OpenCritic rating of 81, Assassin’s Creed Shadows lands squarely in the middle of the pack when compared to all other AC titles (nested in between the OG Assassin’s Creed and AC: Odyssey).
Though we will have to wait until the 20th of March to hear from fans of the franchise, early critic reviews range from calling it one of the best entries in the ‘RPG’ style of AC games, to being labeled as “ a bloated collection of uninspired quests that quickly turn into a repetitive, boring grind.”
That said, one thing which most seem to agree upon is that fans of the modern Assassin’s Creed franchise will find plenty to love – while those who have previously avoided the series will find little to sway them.
Of course, when it comes to the state of Ubisoft, sales matter more so than reviews (especially due to their rather dire circumstances). As such, it will be interesting to see how the game performs sales-wise when Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches tomorrow.
