Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a pivotal title for Ubisoft as its success could secure the publisher’s future for at least a couple more years. Fortunately for the company, Ubisoft's latest and greatest appears to be pulling its weight, with the title having now achieved the 2nd-biggest launch in the series' history.
As reported by industry analysts TheGameBusiness via Twitter: “Assassin's Creed Shadows is the second biggest Assassin's Creed launch in history (behind 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla).”
Putting this figure into a bit more context, Christopher Dring revealed that AC: Shadows has managed to have the biggest launch of the year so far when it comes to physical game sales in the UK – said to be “comfortably ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds” while also outselling Star Wars Outlaws’ 3 months worth of units in just a single week.
On a more global front, VGC confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows achieved the “best-ever Day 1 launch on the PlayStation digital store” while also managing to become the most wishlisted game in Ubisoft’s history.
Finally, adding a feather onto their cap, the game also performed strongly on PC, with 27% of all players hailing from the platform – thanks in part to its day-one release on Steam.
All in all, with more than 2 million players so far and multiple records broken, Assassin’s Creed Shadows could wind up being the shot in the arm that Ubisoft have desperately needed. We will have to wait and see.
