Assassin’s Creed Codename Red will reportedly include playable Shinobi and Samurai

Ubisoft has been going all-in on the Assassin’s Creed franchise, with the publisher having announced half a dozen games or so currently in development. One of the most interesting titles is AC: Codename Red. Set in Feudal Japan, a new report has claimed that the game will offer multiple playstyles, letting you take control of both a samurai and shinobi.

As reported by Insider-Gaming, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, which was previously claimed to offer two playable characters, has now had more details released – with the publication stating that the two characters in question will be a Samurai and a Shinobi.

According to the report, the character teased by Ubisoft during the game’s initial announcement is in fact the female samurai, with the second playable character said to be an African refugee who learned the way of the Creed, becoming a shinobi.

Keeping in line with these characters, Codename Red will reportedly focus heavily on stealth mechanics, bringing the series back to its roots and then going even beyond that – with Insider-Gaming comparing gameplay to the likes of Splinter Cell and Hitman (“hiding bodies, hiding in tall grass, extinguishing lights so your shadows are not spotted etc”).

With so many Assassin’s Creed titles currently in development there were fears that the already saturated series could become even more so. That said, if each game chooses to take its own unique spin on the franchise – such as what we are seeing with Codename Red – then hopefully Ubisoft will be able to avoid such issues. We will have to wait and see.
