Xbox’s Perfect Dark reboot is still ‘years away’ devs say

The Initiative's Perfect Dark reboot was announced about three years ago, so you'd be forgiven for thinking we might get our first good look at it in the next year or so. Unfortunately, it sounds like development is making slow progress and is still quite a ways off.

A new report from IGN cites roughly 13 developer sources who have worked on the game since 2019. The overall picture painted is one of disarray, with the project reportedly suffering “roadblock after roadblock”, ranging from technical challenges to initial issues with the co-development partnership with Crystal Dynamics.

Those speaking on the game's progress seemed to claim that the game is still at least two to three years away. This would mean that Perfect Dark won't be coming out until late 2025 at least but it could potentially slip into 2026.

Of course, in the meantime, Microsoft does have a pretty solid line-up of titles, including Obsidian's Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, Playground Games' Fable reboot, which finally got a gameplay trailer earlier this month, as well as Hellblade 2 from Ninja Theory. The Coalition is also hard at work on the next Gears of War and we're bound to see a new Forza Horizon thrown in there too.

KitGuru Says: A lot of games in recent years have had development struggles, in part due to the pandemic. All we can do is hope that they eventually turn out well.
