Xbox plans to release at least five exclusives over the next year

During a press pre-briefing ahead of the Xbox and Bethesda showcase this weekend, the Xbox team made some interesting comments. While vaguely discussing the outlook for Xbox Game Studios over the next year, Microsoft plans to release at least five exclusives.

As reported by Windows Central, during the briefing, a spokesperson said the company intends to “meet or exceed” the number of exclusive games it launched over the last financial year. Microsoft's fiscal year runs from July to July, so FY2022 exclusives included the likes of Age of Empires 4, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5.

For FY2023, the list of first-party exclusives should at least include Starfield and Redfall, both of which were initially planned for 2022, but were later pushed to the first half of next year. Microsoft will also likely include Obsidian's survival game, Grounded, on that list, as the game will finally leave Early Access later this year.

Obsidian is also rumoured to be pretty far into the development of Avowed, and also has at least one other game in the works under Pillars of Eternity director, Josh Sawyer. We should also see Forza Motorsport 8 released during this time period – and those are just the projects we know about. At the showcase later this week, we should see plenty of new game announcements, from both Xbox first-party and third-party studios.
