Vampire Survivors beats out God of War and Elden Ring for Best Game Award at BAFTAs

The BAFTA Game Awards have been getting more and more attention in recent years. This year, titles like Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok were competing for the coveted ‘Best Game' award, but both were beat out by an unlikely contender – Vampire Survivors.

Vampire Survivors released last year after spending a year in early access development. It is a small indie roguelike with auto-attacks. The gameplay and skill really comes from the player moving their character around and selecting the right cocktail of abilities and weapons to complete levels by surviving as long as possible and completing certain challenges to unlock new abilities, maps and characters.

While I say it is an unlikely competitor for Best Game, that is not meant to be a knock against it at all. I love Vampire Survivors, it is one of the few games I've gone out of my way to try and 100% complete, a feat that I haven't achieved just yet, but I'm still trying. It is just not the game I expected to see prevail over two AAA juggernauts, like Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok.
