Valve shadow-drops Dota 2: Crownfall

Since its inception, Dota 2 has primarily been a PvP game and while Valve has attempted to expand the lore with other projects like the ill-fated game Artifact, there has been no real ‘story' content. That is now starting to change, with Valve ushering in a limited-time Dota PvE event called Crownfall.

Dota 2: Crownfall is an on-going story event within Dota 2. The first act, known as The Markets of Midgate, is available now for a limited time, allowing players to learn more about the Dota universe, while earning unique cosmetic rewards, including new unique cosmetic sets, taunts, creeps, emoticons, as well as two brand-new Arcana for each of Crownfall's main characters.

Valve describes Crownfall as “something completely new” that the team has wanted to try for a while. Better yet, unlike Overwatch 2: Invasion, this story content will be made available for free to all players. There is also a tie-in comic that helps set up the events of Crownfall for those who really want to get deep into the lore.

Of course, there are some purchasable packs available alongside the free content, like the Midgate Pathdinfer Pack, which costs $14.99 and includes Crownfall Coins, as well as additional cosmetic items.
