Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia remake is back at the ‘concept’ phase after latest reboot

While there was a ton of excitement for the Prince of Persia remake, much of that was squandered when we saw the reveal trailer. Since then, Ubisoft has moved the project to a different studio and has essentially started over from scratch. Now three years after its originally planned release, the game is still nowhere close to coming out.

Today in an update on the official Ubisoft website, the publisher confirms that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is now being handled by Ubisoft Montreal and the game is currently in the ‘concept' phase, meaning the developers are testing out multiple ideas and considering their options before scaling up to full production.

Ubisoft Montreal says it has been “looking at feedback from the community” since taking over the project and is now finding its “own way of delivering the game”.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is over 20 years old at this point and it has been over a decade since Ubisoft released a new game in the series. Ubisoft is also working on a remake of another classic, Splinter Cell, although that project is also in the early stages and is likely years away.

KitGuru Says: When the Prince of Persia remake does resurface, it will no doubt look better than the version we were going to get back in 2020. Still, it sounds like we're pretty far off from getting a look at the new version.
