Ubisoft reportedly has ‘no plans’ for The Division 3

The Division 1 & 2 didn't end up being the massive live-service success stories that Ubisoft was hoping for, but the franchise still has a good amount of fans and there are many that enjoyed both games. While there are Division spin-offs in the works at Ubisoft, the publisher apparently has no plans for a big sequel.

Speaking with Insider Gaming, sources claimed that Ubisoft currently has no plans for The Division 3 and a true sequel is not in development. While The Division 3 isn't on the table right now, Ubisoft is working on The Division Heartland, a free-to-play spin-off game that will introduce a new cast of characters, with a greater focus on survival elements.

The Division 2 is also due to get another content update sometime in the near future, although it was just recently delayed due to an issue with the team's build generation system. A bug introduced during recent development meant that Ubisoft Massive had to shift focus to rebuild this system and get it functioning again before it can finish up development on the new season.

A recent round of cancellations at Ubisoft may have also impacted another Division related project.

KitGuru Says: While I really enjoyed The Division 1, it felt like Ubisoft moved on far too quickly and ultimately, I think that hurt the game's reputation. The first game didn't deliver on its ‘live service' promises and I think that made it harder to recommend investing in The Division 2 at launch. Perhaps Ubisoft will find more success with its free-to-play spin-offs.
