Ubisoft has reportedly greenlit an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake

There have been many Assassin's Creed games over the years but longtime fans often cite Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag as one of the best in the franchise. The games have evolved a lot since then, moving away from action-stealth gameplay towards massive RPGs, but Ubisoft may be looking to go back to recapture the magic of Black Flag.

According to sources speaking with Kotaku, Ubisoft has recently greenlit a remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, although the project is still in the early stages and won't be ready to release for several years at least.

Black Flag first released in 2013 as a cross-gen title for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4. The game notably introduced open world sailing, a concept that was later spun off into its own standalone game, Skull & Bones, which has been stuck in development for almost a decade.

If the claim is accurate, then the Black Flag remake would be one of a huge number of Assassin's Creed games currently in development. It was recently reported that as many as 11 new Assassin's Creed games are currently in development.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft still hasn't proven itself as far as remakes are concerned. Projects like Splinter Cell Remake and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake have been announced but neither game has come to fruition so far. With that in mind, it could be a very long time before we see a Black Flag remake in action.
