Turtle Rock working on Back 4 Blood sequel

The first word that comes to mind when describing Back 4 Blood is ‘disappointing'. The game, developed by the studio behind Left 4 Dead, was supposed to be a spiritual successor but ended up getting poor ratings from fans and critics alike. It seems Turtle Rock Studios has been saving some of its good ideas for a sequel though.

As spotted by mp1st, an actor, Jesse Hutch, recently updated their CV with motion capture work on ‘Gobi 2'. As Insider Gaming points out, Gobi was the codename for Back 4 Blood, so this appears to be confirmation that Turtle Rock is working on a sequel.

Additionally, the web domain for back4blood2.com has been registered by Turtle Rock since May 2023. With that in mind, it seems the sequel has been in the works for quite a while already.

The original game released back in 2021 and after the first round of DLC, Turtle Rock moved on to new projects. The sequel may have been in development for three years already at this stage, which means a 2025 announcement is not out of the question.

KitGuru Says: Back 4 Blood 2 will need to be a major upgrade over the first game in order to bring people back in. A lot of fans were burned by the first game, in part due to balancing issues and a host of bugs.
