This year’s list of GOTY nominees announced for The Game Awards

The Game Awards will be returning this year with Geoff Keighley at the helm once again. We are already hearing teases of surprise announcements and world premiere trailers. Before we get to all of that though, we need to see the list of categories and all of the nominees for 2018.

As we've seen in past years, a judging panel has voted on categories and nominees for this year's awards ceremony. However, now that all of the nominees have been announced, its down to fan votes to decide the ultimate winners. There are 22 categories this time around, spanning from ‘Game of the Year' and ‘Best Action/Adventure game' all the way down to ‘Best esports team'.

This year's nominees for Game of the Year include:

  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey
  • Celeste
  • God of War
  • Marvel's Spider-Man
  • Monster Hunter World
  • Red Dead Redemption 2

Best Game Direction returns this year and once again, Sony dominates most of the list:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • God of War
  • A Way Out
  • Red Dead Redemption 2

Best Narrative:

  • Detroit: Become Human
  • God of War
  • Marvel's Spider-Man
  • Life is Strange 2
  • Red Dead Redemption 2

Best Art Direction:

  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey
  • God of War
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Octopath Traveler
  • Return of the Obra Dinn

There are many other nominees spread out across the other categories. Fans can vote on different nominees in all categories right up until the 5th of December. The Game Awards will then take place on the 6th of December.

KitGuru Says: I look forward to The Game Awards each year. Hopefully we get some good surprises this time around. Voting on GOTY is going to be tough this time around, I could easily see God of War, Spider-Man or Red Dead Redemption 2 winning, although ultimately I think Rockstar will go home with the trophy.
