The Witcher 3’s big visual upgrade is still on track for 2022

Earlier this year, CD Projekt Red stopped its partnership with Saber Interactive, bringing The Witcher 3's impending ‘next gen' update in-house. A small team has been working on finishing up the update ever since, which is on track to release before the end of the year.

Unfortunately, the update was not ready in time for the game's 7-year anniversary back in May. However, The Witcher 3's big graphics update will be arriving before the end of the year for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles, as well as PC.

Officially, all we know is that this update will bring some form of ray-tracing to the graphics options menu, and we'll likely get a much more solid 60FPS mode for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles. CD Projekt Red has promised “a few surprises” too, so expect a small amount of new DLC content.

Speaking during a recent earnings call, CD Projekt CEO, Adam Kiciński, confirmed again that the update is ‘on track' for this year. Previously, we were told that the update would release in Q4, so expect more news from October onward. CD Projekt Red also has some big things going on in the world of Cyberpunk, with a big 1.6 patch on the way soon, new DLC to tie in with the upcoming Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series, and the first Cyberpunk 2077 expansion on the way in 2023.

KitGuru Says: If the update is still on track for Q4, then we should hear more about it very soon. We should also see some new updates on the game's SteamDB page in the lead-up to release, so we'll be keeping an eye out for more.
